Congratulations to our students who are recipients of an academic award for grade 10 & 11 in 2015/2016 school year. Students, you can check the bulletin board by the main office or the website by student number to see if you are on the list. On Friday, November 4th in the morning, we will be calling students down by grade and the category of their award (honours, high honours and Principal’s list) to present their award, get a group photo and celebrate your success with cake. Be sure to listen for when your grade and category is called.
The Canadian Senior and Intermediate Mathematics Contests will be written November 23. If you are interested in writing one of these contests, please see Mrs. van Donkelaar in room 326 at lunch today. To the students who are registered to write the Canadian Open Mathematics Contest, please check your Google classrooms, or use code 5k7842x or see Mrs. van Donkelaar in room 326 at lunch today to find the instructions for Thursday.
Yearbook Meeting: Our next meeting is Monday, November 7th at 3:30 pm in Room 335. We will be choosing our cover!
Upcoming University Visits: Reminder to grade 12 students that Acadia University will be at the school today during lunch to offer students on the spot admissions; interested students will need to bring their transcript and a completed application/or complete an application online. This will be taking place in the library quiet zone. St. FX University will be at the school on Wednesday during lunch to discuss their programs, admissions and scholarships. This is taking place in the library quiet room and all are welcome.
GRADE 12’s Scholarship Info – The Peter Kohler Scholarship is awarded to a student who hopes to enter their first year of full-time studies in an Engineering Program at a University in Atlantic Canada in September 2017. This award is open to both graduating high school students, and students from a community college. Applicants will be adjudicated upon the basis of their financial need and their character, with preference given to students who display entrepreneurial spirit. The award is valued at $50,000, distributed over a period of four years – an outstanding opportunity for young Nova Scotian innovators who are facing financial hardship to excel and flourish. The Scotiabank National Scholarship Program – Due: November 2nd. 30 – $500 dollars each. The scholarship is open to yconic members who are:
|· Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada or international students with a valid student visa (permit must be for one year or longer)|
|· 16 years old or older at the time of application|
|· High school or CEGEP students planning to enroll in a certificate, diploma or degree program in the 2017/2018 or 2018/2019 academic year at a Canadian college, university or trade school|
University of Toronto National Scholarship Award – $12,000 Total over 4 years https://www3.adm.utoronto.ca/National/index.php Eligibility Criteria:
|· an original and creative thinker|
|· committed to school and community|
|· a high achiever in academic and creative pursuits|
|· enthusiastic about learning and intellectual exploration|
|· a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person|
|· currently in your final year of Canadian secondary school or first-year CEGEP|
|· intending to begin university at University of Toronto the following academic year|
|· a National Book Award nominee or self-identify as meeting the criteria above|

Queen’s Chancellor’s Scholarship – Students must sign up outside the guidance office by Friday to be considered. Those who are being considered for the nomination will be contacted on Monday November 7th, and will be required to complete an application. Criteria: Students must have 90+ average, be a creative and original thinker, and possess leadership qualities. Due: December 1st. Value: 36, 000
