Looking for volunteer hours? Looking to make a difference in the community and in the lives of others? Interested in making new friends and having fun? Be a peer mentor for Autism Nova Scotia’s CommunityWorks Canada program! No experience required! CommunityWorks Canada (CWC) is a nationally-run, federally funded employment program for youth and young adults with autism, ages 15-21 who are attending high school. The program is 12-weeks long and takes place Thursday evenings from 5:00pm-7:30pm. Participants of the program get the chance to volunteer at various organizations throughout HRM and build upon their social, communication, and workplace skills. Participants work alongside neurotypical peer mentors who perform the job tasks together. Peer mentors are an essential part of our program in that they model appropriate workplace behaviours, model how to do work tasks correctly, as well as help with skill progression of participant individual goals.
