Parent Post Secondary Information Night – November 26th 6:30pm-8:30pm

Parent Post Secondary NightThe purpose of this evening is to explain the post-secondary and scholarship process and to connect parents with local universities/colleges in a forum that will allow for group presentations as well as time for individual questions.

The evening will start with a 30 minute presentation from CPA guidance counsellors concerning the general post-secondary applications processes, admissions, registration and scholarships. The presentation will be followed by 3 breakout sessions with local universities and the community college.

Post-secondary presenters will focus on academic programs, admission procedures, scholarship info and a host of facts that will hopefully make the decision easier as to what school/ program your student should attend.

Black History Essay Contest

RBC Black History Month Essay ContestRBC is inviting students to share their thoughts in a 750 word essay on how black Canadians have helped to define Canada’s diverse heritage and identity through their achievements and contributions to the broader society. In doing so, they qualify to win one of five $500 scholarships in Atlantic Canada and one of three National grand prizes of up to $5,000.

Atlantic’s regional winners will be chosen by a panel of African Canadian RBC Atlantic staff and the national winners will be selected by an external panel comprised of African Canadian business and community leaders.  There are two Atlantic Canadian representatives on the national panel: Judge Corrine Sparks of Halifax, and Ralph Thomas of Saint John, NB.

Essays must be submitted by December 5, 2014 and winners will be announced in early February in time for 2015 Black History Month.

It would be wonderful to have a lot of submissions from students from across Atlantic – who knows, maybe there will be a national winner from this region! More information can be found at www.rbc.com/essay
