Ultimate Disc: Tryouts are at 7:30am in the gym, Tuesdays for girls and Thursdays for boys.

 

Looking for a photographer and videographer: Mr. Leadbeater is looking for a photographer and videographer for a paid assignment connected to the Youth 4 Music event happening October 22nd.  Student should have experience and personal gear.  Please see Mr. Leadbeater in room 128 if you are interested.

 

Curling Club – Anyone interested in joining the curling club is asked to attend a meeting on Thursday at lunch in Room 225. No prior curling experience is necessary.

 

NEW YORK TRIP: If you are a Fine Arts student or IB student you may qualify to participate in our enrichment trip to New York City in June of 2016. Speak to your teacher or see Ms. Whalen – 25% of the seats are already taken!

Potential grads – Post-secondary day originally scheduled for the end of the month has been moved to this Friday from 1 till 3:15.  Guidance Counselors will be around this week to discuss details, but know that all Atlantic post-secondary institutions will be in the gym for a walk about (C -block) and then students will be able to attend individual classroom presentations during D-block

 

SHAD Deadline to apply November 30th– ARE you an inquisitive, critical thinker with an unquenchable need to explore ideas and possibilities? Shad Valley is just the experience for you.  SHAD is hosted at excellent university campuses from coast to coast.  The program provides lectures, labs, field work, cultural experiences, and recreation, offered to high school students, by professors, business professionals, practitioners and peers.  For more information about the program and how to apply see Mrs. Swimm in guidance.  SHAD is a life-changing experience, and looks great on a scholarship application.

 

Junior Achievement – Interested in running your own business? Would you like to make some extra money? Participate in Junior Achievement’s Company Program this year and learn how to create and run your own business! Through participation in this after school program, students are granted a ½ credit towards high school graduation and have access to $40,000 in scholarships. Not to mention the amazing experiences you will have working with your peers and community business professionals! Company Program starts on October 21st at Charles P. Allen High School at 6:30pm and runs weekly from October to March. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to build your resume! JA reps will be here on Thursday at lunch in the student exchange area to give you more details.

Arts & Culture, Science and Technology, Sports and Fitness, Journalism and Communications, just to name a few.  These programs are offered throughout the year, but it is first come first serve.  See Mrs. Swimm in guidance for more information.

 

Striving to Build African Nova Scotian Health Professionals for the Future – As part of an on-going collaboration with Nova Scotia Health Authority and IWK, Association of Black Social Workers, Dalhousie University, NSCC, and the Health Association of African Canadians, will be offering a career development event called “Striving to Build African Nova Scotian Health Professionals for the Future”.  This is an opportunity for African NS students to meet health professionals from the community and learn more about health and health care. This year’s event will take place on November 19th at the NSCC IT campus.  Students who are interested are asked sign up with Mrs. Swimm in guidance.  Transportation and lunch will be provided. Please sign up by October 21st.
