The Boys JV Basketball tryouts will take place in CPA gym this week. First tryouts are Tuesday morning from 7am until 9am. Second tryouts are Wednesday after school from 3:30pm until 6pm. Final tryouts are Thursday morning from 7am until 9am. All are welcome to tryout for the team. If you are interested to tryout for the team you must show up to the first tryout on Tuesday morning. If you have concerns about being able to make tryouts please see Mr. Gray in room 234.

Yearbook Cover Contest: Creative Cheetahs, take heed! Design the cover of Charles P. Allen’s 2016-2017 yearbook and you win a) a free yearbook b) full proof of cover (great for portfolios) and c) glory. Your cover must include the name of our school (Charles P. Allen), the year (2016-2017), our school colours (royal blue and white) and our mascot (cheetah). Deadline for submissions is October 28. Please see Ms. Payne in 335 if you have further questions.
Peer tutoring is now available – students in need of a tutor should email: CPApeertutoring@gmail.com. We are also accepting applications for students who wish to be a tutor: math, sciences and languages – if you speak a 2nd or 3rd language – we definitely want you! See Ms. Morgan in the Library asap.
GRADE 12’s Scholarship Info – The Peter Kohler Scholarship is awarded to a student who hopes to enter their first year of full-time studies in an Engineering Program at a University in Atlantic Canada in September 2017. This award is open to both graduating high school students, and students from a community college. Applicants will be adjudicated upon the basis of their financial need and their character, with preference given to students who display entrepreneurial spirit. The award is valued at $50,000, distributed over a period of four years – an outstanding opportunity for young Nova Scotian innovators who are facing financial hardship to excel and flourish. Grade 12’s – are you unable to pay for post secondary education? Check out the 2017 Horatio Alger Canadian Scholarships – The Horatio Alger Association of Canada provides $650,000 annually in need-based scholarship support for deserving students in all Canadian provinces and territories. Scholarships of up to $10,000 are awarded to full-time students in their final year of high school with financial need (family income under $65,000) who have demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, a commitment to pursue a post-secondary education, a desire to contribute to society, and a good academic record. CEGEP students in Quebec, and all Canadian students in their final year of high school are eligible to apply in English or French. The application deadline is October 25, 2016.
